Browser support

Which browsers and devices work with Loquira, for both speakers and listeners.

Last updated · May 17, 2026 4 min read

Loquira runs entirely in the browser — no app to install, no plugins needed. If you’re new to Loquira, see Getting started first. As a speaker, you need a modern browser with microphone support. As a listener, almost any browser on any device works.

For speakers

These browsers are fully tested and support everything you need — microphone capture, live transcript, and session controls:

BrowserVersionWorks on
Google Chrome120+Windows, macOS, Linux
Microsoft Edge120+Windows, macOS
Mozilla Firefox125+Windows, macOS, Linux
Safari17.4+macOS Sonoma or later

Browsers based on Chrome — including Edge, Brave, and Opera — work identically to Chrome since they share the same underlying technology.

Good to know

  • Safari on iOS works for speaking, but may pause the session if you switch to another app. Keep the Loquira tab in the foreground during your session.
  • Firefox on Android works but may have slightly higher audio delay than Chrome on the same device.

For listeners

The listener experience is lighter — no microphone needed, just audio playback and text. This means nearly any device with a browser works:

DeviceBrowserExperience
iPhone / iPadSafari, ChromeFull support
Android phoneChrome, FirefoxFull support
MacSafari, Chrome, FirefoxFull support
WindowsChrome, Edge, FirefoxFull support
LinuxChrome, FirefoxFull support

Listeners don’t need to install anything. They scan the QR or type the code, pick a language, and they’re in.

What doesn’t work

  • Internet Explorer — too old for modern web audio. The page will suggest a supported browser.
  • Very old Safari (before macOS Ventura) — microphone capture is unreliable. You’ll see a prompt to update.
  • Embedded browsers in old apps (Electron before version 28) — may lack needed audio capabilities. If embedding Loquira in a desktop app, use a recent Chromium build.

Mobile tips

iPhone and iPad

All browsers on iOS use the same Safari engine under the hood, so Chrome and Firefox on iPhone work the same as Safari for listening.

For speaking on iOS, keep the Loquira tab in the foreground. iOS may pause audio if the tab is backgrounded for more than 30 seconds.

Android

Chrome on Android is the recommended choice for both speaking and listening. Firefox works too, with slightly higher audio delay on some devices.

The permission check

When you start a session, Loquira asks for microphone access. This takes less than a second. If permission hasn’t been granted, you’ll see a prompt — grant it and you’re ready to go. For tips on choosing the right microphone and getting the best audio quality, see Audio requirements.
